Welcome to my blog, I hope you’ve enjoyed our stories, and/or found useful information for planning your own adventure.
Here’s a quick introduction of the characters…
Three of us were equal part owners in the Hilux:
My name is Joel, and I’m based in Perth but I work as a geologist on a mine in outback Western Australia.
Simon is a management consultant, based in Sydney. Some might say he comes up with silly ideas often, this whole trip was one of them!
And Josh was based in Canberra, working as an IT consultant. Josh came for everything except northern India, Pakistan/Iran and most of Turkey.
Together we did the research, nutted out the details, bought the Hilux and got it ready, and managed to convince our friends and family we were a) not joking, and b) not insane.
And some mates joined us for the bits they could:
Lani, an OT from Perth joined us for India/Nepal and most of Europe. Lani spent the time in between covering a hell of a lot of India.
Pat, a lawyer from Adelaide, joined us for Nepal/India/Pakistan/Iran.
Anna, a management consultant, joined us for Turkey.
What I hope to show is that we’re not all professional travellers (except Josh would like to be!), we’re not missionaries, or visionaries, or hippies, or drug smugglers. We’re just a bunch of normal people who came up with a crazy idea and turned it into the trip of a lifetime (until the next one that is!).
With the stories on the blog, and the info I’ve put in the other pages, hopefully I can convince someone else to put their career on hold, put their stuff in storage, grab their passport and car keys and go for a drive.
